For 2017 I prepared a 12-month photo project with a theme defined for each month. Based on the theme of the particular month, I could take as many photos as I would be able to get during that month and then I would have to publish 3 to 5 photos (series, collages) in one post at the end of the month. More time to get the photos but fulfilling the theme could have been quite challenging.
When I told my husband about my intentions, he surprised me by telling me that he really liked the project and would like to join me to improve his photography skills as well. I agreed so a few days later we both came up with a set of 12 themes and negotiated those that we both found acceptable and motivating as well as challenging. We assigned them to individual months and here they are:
January … BUILDINGS
February … PART OF THE WHOLE (meaning a detail that defines the whole so that from the detail you can say what the whole is)
March … GEOMETRY
April … RUSTY
May … PEOPLE (meaning strangers, not friends or family, and the people should represent the theme of the photo, not just to be its part)
June … IN MOTION (meaning anything moving)
July … BLACK & WHITE
August … TIME MEASURING DEVICES (such as clocks, sundials, hourglasses, etc.)
September … MEANS OF TRANSPORT
October … CONTRAST
November … ONE PLUS ADDITIONAL (meaning a collage created from one main photo which will be big and a few accompanying photos which will be smaller, e.g. a collage containing a big photo of a castle and three or four smaller photos of the castle’s garden or details, or a collage containing a big photo of a car and a few smaller photos of the same car in different colours, you get the idea) – here we decided that the main photo has to be taken in November, the other photos can be added from those taken from January to November.
December … A THING OR SCENE CAPTURED IN THREE DIFFERENT WAYS (meaning different angle, perspective, distance, etc.)
Soon after starting the project I was taught a few photography lessons that I described in my First lessons taught post.
Here is an overview of the posts for the individual months and themes. If you want to see all the related photos that I took and their stories, click on the images to open the individual posts.
