    Colours and light

Returning to the day when I was taking the previously shared photos of the cherry tree orchard, a few more photos have been left which I’d like to share. We left the orchard and went in the other direction, through the village. In the meantime, the sky turned dramatic and the light changed, everything seemed much more prominent and colourful. There are places in the village I especially love to take photos of and look at, though they may not be “special”. Like the following fence and its surroundings: There is a pitch hidden in the following photo, or rather a grassy area used for various purposes. It’s used on…

    Following trail markings

“The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honours the servant and has forgotten the gift.”― Albert Einstein When I was going home from work last week, I started to think about Felix Felicis, a potion playing an important role in Harry Potter’s adventures… Well, I need to insert a little intermezzo here. Afterwards I pondered about the occurrence of that idea in my mind, why Harry Potter all of a sudden? And I realised that I could start many of my posts with the words “When I was going home from work, it occurred to me…”. I…

    Pilgrimage to Kladruby

In September I posted a few photos from our brief stop at the premises of the Benedictine monastery at Kladruby. About three weeks ago a diocesan pilgrimage took place there and I decided to go, together with my younger son. He wanted to go and I thought it was a good opportunity both for him and me to spend a nice day and enjoy the atmosphere of the place. Buses were provided for participants in several towns and we went with the nearest one. It was quite a change not to go by car for once, it added to the atmosphere of the pilgrimage. The pilgrimage… I’m not sure about…

    More spring sights

On our way to and from the cherry tree orchard which I showed you in my previous post we saw much more than just the orchard. Near by the orchard there was a wet area spotted with plenty of marsh marigolds whose bright yellow flowers were shining in the grass. Blooming trees were all around and it occurred to me that you never know where an unknown path would take you. It may hide so many turns and surprises. In the following photo, there is the countryside I live in. No stunning view but I love this hilly terrain. My father was always addressing it as the foothills of Šumava…

    Cherry tree orchard

There is a small cherry tree orchard by the village where we live and we were walking there a month ago. I didn’t take any photo in the orchard as I didn’t see anything what would have attracted my attention, I took just a few photos around. Then the trees came into bloom and were visible prominently from the road where I drive regularly and I wanted to go there and enjoy the scenery. So we did and you can see how the scenery changed in the same photo, just taken about four weeks later… The yellow specks are dandelions, there are plenty of them here. The orchard is just…

    Perspective

“We are set in our ways, bound by our perspectives and stuck in our thinking.”― Joel Osteen The other day I was going home from work, driving my car and listening to the radio. I was in a bad mood because I made a great deal of effort at work and credit for it was given indirectly to my colleague. I was listening to the broadcasting, both news and music and was drowning disappointment in self-pity. Then a song started and though I wasn’t listening to it carefully, I suddenly heard two words prominently among other words. True seeker. TRUE SEEKER. The words were screaming in my mind and I…

    April changes

On 1 April which was the last Easter day we spent a few hours in the wood which is situated near our house. Although there were still some remnants of snow, the air wasn’t that cold and the walk was very pleasant. The only thing which made me feel a bit disturbed were traces of wild boars’ presence. They say the boars are over-abundant here. Supposedly they hide during the day and I’ve never seen any but I really wouldn’t want to run into any of them. The scenery was calm and sleeping, resembling autumn rather than spring and there wasn’t much to be admired but I liked the yellow…

    Meeting warmth

One of the things that make me happy in my garden is a little clump of chives that I love to add to soups or to scatter them on boiled potatoes. They are best in late spring or early summer before hot days dry their juiciness out. I usually cut them a lot at that time prior to their flowering and keep them in our freezer for later use. I’ve learnt to use more herbs and spices lately and a week ago I remembered a spice mixture which I used to buy years ago. I decided to buy and taste it again so I made a mental note and when…

Trip to Lhota – Part 2

After the Vision-and-Verb intermezzo of the last post, let’s get back to the trip to Lhota I’d told you about before. When we left the horses, we continued along the path and in some parts, we had a wonderful view. We met a group of friendly people who made me realise that the blue area in the photo below wasn’t water. They explained that it was a solar power station, the largest one near and far. Then we came to a cross erected in memory of someone and I really regret to say I don’t remember who it was. And I have no idea where to find it so next…

    Message left by a dream

From Monday to Friday, my husband’s alarm clock goes off at 5:00 a.m. My alarm is set for 5:01 and follows shortly. I like to stay in bed for a few more minutes to wake up properly so I stop the ringing as soon as it starts and try not to fall asleep to get to my workplace in time. Surprisingly I rarely fall back to sleep. This Tuesday morning belonged to those rare exceptions. When I heard my husband’s tender voice calling my name, I opened my eyes with a start to find out that it was almost half past five. To get even bigger shock, I woke from…
