Strolling through Kutná Hora

In my previous post, where I was talking about our visit to St. Barbara’s Cathedral in Kutná Hora, I promised to share some photos from the town itself, and here they are. But before you scroll to them, I’d like to share a few comments.

When looking up which places are worth visiting, I found the expected. The cathedral, the ossuary, churches and museums including an old silver mine and mint. But advice was also given simply to stroll through the historic centre, enjoy the atmosphere of the old buildings, and — importantly — come back another time and experience the town under different conditions.

I can tell you, this is exactly what I would recommend, having spent the whole day there.

One day is not enough if you want to experience it all. With the exception of the cathedral, we spent our time entirely outside, enjoying the architecture and many beautiful vistas. Moving just a few hundred metres further, you can see the cathedral from different angles, set in a slightly different composition. You can walk through this street or that and discover new portals and frescoes. You can be awed by the imposing Church of St. Jacob, which is a true landmark of the town.

And because we came at Easter time, when spring was just finding its feet and the day was overcast and rainy, I thought about how different it would all be in autumn or even winter — everything cast in altogether different colours.

If you ever have a chance to visit Kutná Hora, make it happen, at least just for the one day. You will not regret it.
