Church in Břeclav – Poštorná
During our summer vacation in Moravia we made many plans and visited many places but the church I’m going to show you today wasn’t on any of our itineraries. We were just passing it during one of our trips and because it attracted our attention, we made a short stop by it when going back, to take a closer look. And a few photos of course. Unfortunately the sharp evening sun and fading light made it quite difficult to take a decent photo against the sky but you can at least imagine what the building looks like. There were so many interesting details and if it wasn’t that late we…

Strážnice
In one of my previous posts you could see the open-air museum in Strážnice, reminding us of the past of the area. Today I’d like to add a few photos from the town itself, photos capturing the traditional face of the town. Strážnice is known as a place where a popular International Folklore Festival takes place every year. It started in 1946 and last year it was visited by more than 20 000 visitors. There are several buildings in the town which preserve the typical decoration as you can see in the following two photos. The patterns are not same but have the same style. Some of the houses don’t…

Luhačovice spa
Back to Moravia where we spent one day in Luhačovice. Luhačovice is the biggest Moravian spa with a long tradition of spa treatment of diseases related to air passages, digestive tract, diabetes and locomotive organs. History of its healing springs reaches back to the 17th century, 17 springs has been found since that time. Every hour, about 15 thousand litres of mineral water rise to the surface from them. Water from the springs is not bottled except for a spring named Vincentka, one can buy the Vincentka water in pharmacies throughout the Czech Republic. The spring Vincentka has been known since 1680 and it is used for drinking therapy and…

Pilgrimage to Kladruby
In September I posted a few photos from our brief stop at the premises of the Benedictine monastery at Kladruby. About three weeks ago a diocesan pilgrimage took place there and I decided to go, together with my younger son. He wanted to go and I thought it was a good opportunity both for him and me to spend a nice day and enjoy the atmosphere of the place. Buses were provided for participants in several towns and we went with the nearest one. It was quite a change not to go by car for once, it added to the atmosphere of the pilgrimage. The pilgrimage… I’m not sure about…

Overcast desperation
This winter I haven’t seen much of blue sky. The sky is either light or dark grey, causes energy shortage and brings abundance of tiredness. Hence the title of this post. A few moments ago my husband was reading me weather forecast for the arriving March and it was like this: first ten-day period – cloudy and overcastsecond ten-day period – cloudy and rainythird ten-day period – cloudy, overcast and rainy I know that March is much worse for me than February. Spring is already expected but winter persists. Not that frosty shiny winter. The muddy overcast one. So when we got a new portion of snow last week, I…

Benedictine monastery at Kladruby
On our way back from Bečov nad Teplou we briefly stopped in a monastery in Kladruby to have a look around and see what’s changed there. The monastery is a magnificent cluster of buildings but when we visited the place a few years ago, for me it was quite a sad view of battered walls and facades. This time I was pleased to see great improvement, it’s obvious that a lot of work had been done and a lot of money spent to preserve these historical buildings. I’ve taken a few photos but mostly details as when you stand close to a huge building there is little chance to squeeze…

Lilac genre scenery
When we were approaching our car at the end of our outing to Žinkovy, I spotted out of the corner of my eye violet lilac bushes. I asked my husband to take care of our tired children and wait for me for a few minutes and went to explore the place. We were parking by an old church and when I turned a corner to come and see the lilacs, I found a beautiful scenery. The lilacs made the scene complete as without their colour the place wouldn’t look that prominent. Unfortunately, the church and its surroundings look somewhat dilapidated and it’s the same old story about first lack of…

Nature trail by Nebílovy
At the end of March the weather started to be nicer with clear blue sky (at least from time to time), higher temperatures and more positive feelings. I and my husband wanted to go on a family outing and so we buried ourselves in Internet and maps to find an interesting target. We wanted to choose some shorter trail for the start and in the end I found out a suitable one in a brochure describing local nature trails. When Saturday came we packed cameras, drinks and snacks and set off after the dinner. The nature trail starts and ends in one place, by a castle in Nebílovy. The castle was unfortunately…
