    Spring in my garden

In the Czech Republic we have a saying: “Get to a stove in March and stay there in April too”. It rhymes in the Czech language and I find myself repeating it each and every spring. It emphasises the fact that there are always a few wonderful sunny days at the beginning of spring and then temperature drops again and one has to wait usually to May to enjoy the nice weather again. This year has been no exception. It’s been raining today and the temperature was only 6°C this afternoon… Nevertheless, yesterday I spent some time in my garden and found out that even in this awful weather, there…

    Zbiroh castle

A few weeks ago, I wrote about an exhibition we visited in the Zbiroh castle and this time I’d like to draw attention to the castle itself. When we arrived there, I was quite surprised to see how big it was and what a large park it was surrounded by. I looked up some information about the castle’s history for you and here are the most interesting pieces: The castle was built at the end of 12th century by a nobleman not by a king, which happened in Bohemia for the first time. The castle went through several architectural styles (Romanic, Gothic, Renaissance, New-renaissance) and the history of the castle…

    Easter Wishes

A few weeks ago I visited the city Plzeň, holding my camera tightly and eager to take a few photos. Cold wind was blowing while we were strolling through the city and the city looked quite gloomy. Nevertheless, when sun emerged among dark clouds, the atmosphere changed dramatically. A prominent contrast appeared and conjured wonderful scenes… I like the contrast in the photo as it suits Easter perfectly. The darkness of Good Friday lightened by the hope of the Resurrection, no words needed… Wishing you a blessed and happy Easter!

    Exhibition

A few weeks ago I noticed an article in the back of a company bulletin promoting an exhibition called “Leonardo da Vinci’s Face – Story of the Order of the Knights Templar”. It caught my attention, so I copied the article and intended to find out more pieces of information. Finally I became quite eager to go and see the exhibition and made a plan for a family outing. My husband and both children agreed and we went there last Saturday. Well, I can tell you now that I’ve been inspired by both the castle Zbiroh where the exhibition has taken place and the exhibition itself and I’d like to…

Have you ever heard a smell?

A few weeks ago I coincidentally came around two interesting articles dealing with a phenomenon I’ve never heard about and which I find really interesting. Synesthesia. Does it ring a bell with you? We all have 5 senses and they operate independently of one another. But there are people whose senses are combined in such a way that they can e.g. taste sound, see coloured numbers or letters of the alphabet, hear smells, see colours when hearing musical tones or sounds generally, etc. Any senses and any number of them can be combined but commonly just two of them are involved. Even in this case, perception is rather complex. Karen…

    Autumnal colours

What makes autumn so interesting to me are its colours and atmosphere. Fog and sunny rays are not afraid of one another and they share many autumn days. Light is softly changed in this period and colours are deeper, haze on the horizon makes the scenery somewhat sentimental. And even many places that wouldn’t catch my attention during another season become poetic and memorable. Don’t you think so? Just have a look at the pool…

    Pink variations

I will never grow tired of taking photographs of flowers as they are so beautiful. These were taken in August in my mother-in-law’s garden. Echinacea visited by a bumblebee with its wonderful pollen coat… Hibiscus bathed in sun’s rays… And Hydrangea, one of my favourite flowers…

    Doors

When you are entering a building with a beautiful, prominent or impressive entrance door, you may find yourself full of expectations what will be shown to you behind that door. What marvels of architecture or refined taste you will see. Well, the door may or may not hide anything special but still, it brings something special itself or helps to create a great scene. Here is a door captured in the courtyard of the castle situated in the town Nové Město nad Metují, a door in a place of pilgrimage called “Mountain of Mother of God” situated above the town Králíky, and a door in the courtyard of the castle situated…
