My word for the year
It’s been my practice lately to pick a word at the end of the year that will accompany me throughout the following year and will help me to focus on some aspect of my life that needs to be improved, changed or thought over. I can tell you that it’s quite interesting to watch how this practice evolves and how these words come to me. For this year the scheme hasn’t changed. A few days before Christmas I was driving on my way to work and paying attention to the traffic when suddenly a photo appeared in front of my mind’s eye. It was a photo I took last year…

Starting a 12-month photo project
Do you work better under pressure, even under that self-imposed? I do so a few years ago I chose to fulfil a 52-week photo project to improve and enhance my photography skills, it was back in 2014. Based on evaluation of pros and cons of the project I decided to take it slower and use some guidance and in 2015 I participated in a course focused on still life photography. The year felt as not long enough time so I continued with shooting this style and participating in a similar course also in 2016. When I was thinking about a new photo project for 2017, I was pondering over my experience of those three years. What was good…

Merry Christmas
As I invested many hours within last several months in moving and merging my blogs here, I skipped writing many intended posts and shooting many intended photos, but finally all is ready here to be continued. I’m looking forward to my next blogging and photography adventures and I hope that they will be enriching not just for me but also for you who come to visit my blog. I still have quite a few photos to be shared, a few reflections to be pondered over and I plan another photo project for next year to further develop and enhance my photography skills, I will tell you more about it in…

For the love of details
A few weeks ago we visited my mom, who lives in Příbram, which is a town in Central Bohemia. I took my camera with me for the occasion of “what if… we went for a walk”. We did and I took a few miscellaneous details that I want to share with you. No. 1: Watch out for childrenThere are standard traffic signs we all are used to and need to know when driving but passing by the signs along the same routes repeatedly makes them often sort of invisible to our eyes. I loved this colourful sign drawing attention to its message. No. 2: Alfa RomeoAlfa Romeo is not a common car…

Lilac and wooden birdie
Some time ago I took a photo of cut hydrangea in a vase placed by quite an ugly window, you could see it in my post Out of place. I decided to use the same vase and the same window for another out-of-place photo, this time with lilac and a little wooden bird that decorates my interior. Again, I was intrigued by the contrast between the beautiful flowers and the place. Here is different, let’s say a bit more artistic, processing of the photo: I already have other flowers in my mind to put there and shoot, such as yellow Lysimachia or white Marguerite, sounds like it might be a…

Colouring fantasy
Today I’ve finished colouring another pattern. When my kids saw it, they were looking at me as if I was from another planet. Too bright, too colourful, mom, you’ve definitely got overboard with this… Well, you can have the same impression but I will be brave enough to say I don’t care. I love that brightness, I love those colours, and I love the combinations. This is exactly what I love about colouring. I follow my instincts, make my choices and can go as crazy as I like and dare. My older sister used to colour images as an adult too, until she bought a laptop and started playing facebook…

Unexpected portrait
In the Czech Republic, we celebrate a name day, the date of the year when our name is presented in a Czech calendar. It’s the same date every year. A few days ago my younger son had his name day and he was thrilled to get a T-shirt with the name of one of his favourite bands as a few days before that he had got a cap with the same name. He also got chocolate fish he liked and he came up with the idea to take a selfie to preserve the memory of the presents. I offered to use my camera to get a decent shot and when…

Country church
Every time when we go to visit my mom, we drive by a church in Starý Rožmitál that always draws my attention. There is nothing extraordinary about the building itself, it’s a country church standing by a cemetery, but the view from the road looks very nice. I asked my husband to stop nearby last week so that I could take a photo. I was walking here and there for a while when looking for the best view and along the way I was passing by a beautiful lilac bush. Lilac blooms are gone for now so it’s a nice memory. I also saw an eye-catching leafy tree which I…

Apple inspiration
The other day I was peeling apples and their shapes and colours caught my attention. I brought my apron (that I like but rarely use), picked a few leaves of lemon balm that grew in a pot on my window sill and played with my camera for a while. This is the photo that I liked most: I played also when processing the photo and liked the darker, less saturated version. It’s tricky to try and change colours of fruit and herbs… The following photo presents the same settings but quite shallow depth of field which makes the eye return to that focused part again and again. There is still…

When the time comes
Stone.Body like a stone.Heavy like a stone. Consciousness,at the edge of wakefulness,at the edge of awareness,at the edge of perception. At the edge of comprehension, when there is no way back, when one can’t wake up and live, when the way leads just to falling asleep. The door is getting closedto be openedwhen the time comes.
