Having visited Schladming
Many years ago, at the time of my university studies, I used to have a friend in Austria. Then our ways parted and that meant the end of traveling to the country for me. Yet I had so many nice memories of the places we visited and eventually they resulted in vacation plans for this year.
My husband and I enjoyed a week’s stay in Schladming area in Styria, where one can go hiking in the mountains with their many faces depending on weather and surroundings, as well as experience the peacefulness of the town. Actually, the experience made me start a new category here on the blog. The category is called “From Abroad” and all the included posts will be related to my outside-the-Czech-Republic travelling.
Schladming is a nice tidy town, which is visited by tourists in summer, but especially by skiers in winter. In July, during our stay, it was a peaceful place radiating pleasant atmosphere. In the evenings and late afternoons, especially the main streets were full of people, strolling or enjoying their meals and/or drinks in numerous restaurants and cafés, but it was all pleasantly lively, not overcrowded, which felt good.
Here are a few photos I took in the town. The old-looking building in the first photo is a town hall surrounded by a small park; on the left you can see a memorial to fallen soldiers. I loved the colourful flower beds and sitting on a bench with an ice cream in hand felt marvellous…
The last two photos of the streets were taken from the balcony of our hotel room, what a from-above view. It looked different every morning in relation to the ever-changing weather… And you can see right away that the last photo was taken in the morning when there were almost no people and the street was just waking to its life, being tidied and slowly populated.
I wish now I took much more photos in the town while strolling in its streets, to document and remember… On the other hand, I enjoyed perceiving the town itself and using the camera all the time would spoil the experience in a way. Sometimes I first need to absorb the atmosphere and the photography part follows, there was not enough time to manage everything…
