    Kladská

As I’ve already written, some time ago we were looking for an interesting destination of our weekend trip and while browsing the Internet, our eyes fell on a description of a nature trail “Kladská”. We liked the description and went there. The nature trail starts as well as ends in Kladská. Kladská is a village where you can find just a few buildings but their history – although not very long – is quite interesting. In 1873, the prince Otto Friedrich Schönburg-Waldenburg bought a woody area in this region and liked it so much that he started to build a village – a hunting castle with outbuildings, gamekeeper’s lodge, revenue…

    ZOO seen a bit differently

Two years ago I visited the zoo in Dvůr Králové. This zoo has always been known as the only one with safari in the Czech Republic as part of it is available only by busses with open decks which are going among animals that are moving freely around. Some changes have been made lately regarding the safari to attract more visitors. There are cottages prepared for photographs who can rent them and I think that you can also enter the area in your own car now. Nevertheless, the safari is not that big and inhabited, it seems to me that a lot needs to be done yet. The zoo itself…

    Spring in my garden

In the Czech Republic we have a saying: “Get to a stove in March and stay there in April too”. It rhymes in the Czech language and I find myself repeating it each and every spring. It emphasises the fact that there are always a few wonderful sunny days at the beginning of spring and then temperature drops again and one has to wait usually to May to enjoy the nice weather again. This year has been no exception. It’s been raining today and the temperature was only 6°C this afternoon… Nevertheless, yesterday I spent some time in my garden and found out that even in this awful weather, there…

Have you ever heard a smell?

A few weeks ago I coincidentally came around two interesting articles dealing with a phenomenon I’ve never heard about and which I find really interesting. Synesthesia. Does it ring a bell with you? We all have 5 senses and they operate independently of one another. But there are people whose senses are combined in such a way that they can e.g. taste sound, see coloured numbers or letters of the alphabet, hear smells, see colours when hearing musical tones or sounds generally, etc. Any senses and any number of them can be combined but commonly just two of them are involved. Even in this case, perception is rather complex. Karen…

    Pink variations

I will never grow tired of taking photographs of flowers as they are so beautiful. These were taken in August in my mother-in-law’s garden. Echinacea visited by a bumblebee with its wonderful pollen coat… Hibiscus bathed in sun’s rays… And Hydrangea, one of my favourite flowers…

    Spring in terms of flowers

It’s beautiful to come out of the house right into the garden and to see nature so close… I grew up in a city, in a block of flats with garages in the backyard and a busy main street in front of the house. Moreover, both grandmothers lived in the same city, just in other parts of it. How much I longed for some nice relatives living in the country!! I would never have guessed at that time that one day I would be living in the country. One never knows what experience waits round the corner… I guess the flower above is some perennial kind of begonia, I have…

    Spring has finally come…

… although winter hasn’t given up yet. April is known for its uncertain weather here and so we had 25°C a few days ago as well as just 5°C today. I am quite happy that we were able to do quite a lot of work in our garden during those warm days and so the world looks a little bit better now. On the other hand, I nearly don’t remember how my camera looks as I haven’t used it since winter. Let me open my archive for a while and present a photo from the last spring to start the new season: These crocuses are planted in front of our…
