Kašperské Hory

Kašperské Hory was the town assigned to June in my photo project for this year and here I am to present some of the photos I took there. 35 photos again, as in the previous months. By the way, I was quite surprised to see that many of the photos I took were in the portrait rather than landscape format, not quite typical for me.

The town Kašperské Hory has about 1500 inhabitants. It is situated in a beautiful area of Šumava mountains and many tourists visit it throughout the whole year. In the 14th century it was an important town for its gold mines. To guard the boarder and protect the goldfields and trade route, Charles IV ordered a castle to be built above the town, it is called the Kašperk castle.

I loved strolling through the town… and I only regret that I haven’t taken any photo of the modern houses that have been built there lately as some of them looked really good in the place. Perhaps next time. And just imagine, during one of the visits of the town I even got a beautiful yellow rose from an older man who cut it in his garden for me. What a sweet surprise it was… 

There was one thing that I didn’t like though. I walked the path winding through the forest to the castle several times and it used to be a solid forest path. Recently it has been rebuilt by using concrete and I absolutely dislike that. It surely is a matter of opinion and the hard surface may be better for cyclists but now it’s rather a road than a path and the natural charm of the path leading to the castle is lost.
